Most compelling images of the 21st century

TYTW Founder Stephanie Sinclair image of child brides Tehani and her former classmate Ghada in Hajjah, Yemen, was selected as one of National Geographic's most compelling images of the 21st century.

"Whenever I saw him, I hid. I hated to see him," Tehani (in pink) recalled of the early days of her marriage to Majed, when she was 6 and he was 25.

Before Covid-19, more than 65% of Yemeni girls were being married off before 18 due to the conflict, an increase from 50% before the conflict began. Now due to the pandemic, that rate may climb even higher. With our partners Solidarios Sin Fronteras, we are providing emergency support in the form of food boxes, sanitation resources, and the provision of clean water to more than 3200 internally displaced people and school children in Sana'a, Yemen.
